Super excited and honored that my short story, “Jean”, has been accepted to the upcoming The Latinx Archive: Speculative Fiction for Dreamers. The anthology is a follow-up to their Latin@ Rising that featured some great writers and visual artists of the Latinx community. From their website:
“The Latinx Archive is an anthology of science fiction and fantasy for young adults. It is dedicated to the young Latinx dreamers who are working to make their place in the United States”
What’s very exciting for me besides this being my first publication, is that the story is based on one of my novels, The Saints of Columbus, which agent and I are polishing for submission. It introduces Nova, someone who won’t let you forget her.
The anthology has a Young Adult bent, but those who read adult literary fiction will find a home in “Jean”, too.
Speculative? Think not-so-ordinary, think a little magical, think a little fantasy, a little science fiction, a little something… different. Though not the formal definition, it helps me to think of it that way.
The group will be sending updates soon; last time they did a kickstarter to help them move it along.
So, stay tuned for updates. And here’s a little bit about Jean.
A young, wormhole-traveling teenager reflects on her mother’s short life—navigating the dark world of heroin, spiritism, being labeled a ’70s “Nuyorican”—and how her story is told in one of the greatest comic book legends of the Marvel Universe.

Because, yes. My cousin and I are working on a graphic novel something too.
